Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

With the spring semester well underway, there are many important events coming. Keep reading to see what we have in store.

Concerts and Recitals

Mozart Masterclass and Recital - Some of the older students have been learning Mozart Sonatas. They will be performing them in a solo recital on April 20th, as well as in a masterclass on April 16th, lead by violin teacher Fernando Medina. The master class will also feature our string quartet (performing Mozart as well). In a masterclass, students will perform and be coached by a clinician in front of other students. It's a great opportunity for students to learn build their confidence playing in front of others as well as improve their playing with the help of the clinician/teacher. Also, the other students attending can learn from observing the clinician work with each student/group. All students are encouraged to attend this event, even if they are not performing.

Spring Recital - The spring recital, which will be held April 27th, features all students performing solos. It will also include several ensembles and group numbers. This is a great venue for all students to demonstrate their progress for their families and fellow students.

BAYS Concert - The students who are in the Bay Area Youth Symphony will be having their final concert of the season on Sunday, April 28th. This concert is extra special as it will also featuring Vanessa Marsh as a soloist, performing the Vivaldi Concerto, an honor which she won in this years concerto competition. All students are encouraged to attend this concert to support her and all the other students who are performing in the symphonies.

Clear Lake Chamber Ensemble Concert - Our string quartet (Vanessa Marsh, Danna Cai, Jolie Jackson, and Lexi Jackson) won the honor to perform their string quartet at the final concert of the CLCE. The concert will be held on Friday, March 3rd. Please come out and support them if you can.

End of Year Play-In - This event is tentative, but I'm hoping to set up a large end of school year play-in style concert with other local studios. I'll be working on ironing out the details and will keep you posted as things develop.

Looking Ahead to Next Year

Bay Area Youth Symphony - Many students will be continuing if the youth symphony next year, and some will be entering for the first time. Students who are planning to enter or move up to a higher level will be looking to prepare their auditions over the summer. Additionally, students who are planning to enter the preparatory group should continue working on their reading assignments over the summer to be as prepared as possible for starting in the fall. Students who are continuing in their current group will not need to audition, but will need to submit an application. Tuition is due at the beginning of the season (September 2019), so keep this is mind for budgeting if necessary.

Region Music - Students in 6th grade or older will be receiving region music near the end of the school year. The region contest takes place early in the fall semester (usually late September) and students will have all summer to prepare their music. We had great success with the region auditions last year and I look forward to even more victories next year.

I know the end of the year is a busy/hectic time for all of us, so keep these things in mind moving forward to make sure that we finish the year strong and keep our eyes on the future.
